Watch with awe and wonder at my latest photoshop innovation! The Carousel moves!!! :-)

This one is to scale. In photoshop I have the grid lines on, so it makes more sense. The Key in the lower left is to give some perspective. Basically, this version has a 16" Deep Dish wheel in the center on a 1 ton axle. There is space between the rim of the wheel and the inner circle of the deck. The inner circle has a diameter of 24". There are bracket in the cardinal directions that attach to the deck. These are our main supports. In this depiction, they are only 2x4s, but I imagine them becoming either a pair of 2x4s with space in the middle or 4x4s.

I think that we should still have the support cables run from the edges to a center pole. This would reduce sagging and also reduce the weight that the bicycle wheels have to support. Of course that is out of the scope of this picture, but must be noted to explain how such a wide deck can be supported with only four cross beams. Then again, four may be plenty! :)

Ok, so the support beams go out to the bicycle tires... This may need to be changed in the future, but for now let's go with it. The bicycle tire is 26" in diameter. That means that the height of the deck is somewhere over one foot, but probably less than 2 feet. This assumes that the middle of the bicycle tire resides below or within the height of the 2x4 support beams. The cranks are 17" from the hub of the bicycle tire. The clearance width of the cranks is 16 " wide. In this depiction, the frame of the bicycle is centered at four feet from the center and two feet from the edge. This is because we anticipate adding an inverted cone around the center hub that is about 3 feet in diameter at its base. This leaves 2 feet on the outside and 2.5 feet on the inside of the bicycle assembly.

There is approximately an area of 6 feet long by 2.5 feet wide for the cars. The width can be increased at the cost of some length in the cars. That should be plenty of room for a car, and it would effectively prohibit additional riders other than the pedallers.

It's like midnight and stuff. I'm gonna go to sleep now.
